He saw that there was no man, And the Lord wondered that there was no intercessor. (Isaiah 59:16 )
An intercessor is one who intervenes on behalf of another. In this context they intervene between God and others whether individuals, families, churches, cities, communities or nations. Whatever it might be, before there can be divine intervention in human affairs, there has to be earthly legal permission through intercessors.

“Jabez cried to the God of Israel saying, oh that you would bless me and enlarge my border, that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from evil, so it might not hurt me. And God granted his request.” (1 Chronicles 4:10 ) (AMP)

In the Hebrew Jabez means pain. The reason he was given such a name was that his mother bore him in pain.
